Managing Solder Waste Properly

Solder image

Solder waste (or dross) should be collected and placed in the metal hoppers for recycling. Left over solder (including rosin core solder), and the wicks should also be recycled. This material should be collected in an appropriate container until full, and should be labeled "Excess solder for recycle". These materials should not be managed as hazardous waste. Where wipes contaminated with various corrosive cleaning or fluxing agents (e.g., zinc chloride, hydrochloric acid, corrosive amine compounds) are generated, staff must determine if the wipes are a hazardous waste based on the level of contaminant on the wipes.
