A Computing Sciences employee had a near-hit entering the double doors leading to Bldg. 50's 4th floor. He previously noticed the doors closed faster and more forcefully than other doors, but he didn’t concern himself until he walked through with both hands full and the door banged his forearm. There was no injury, but the close call prompted him to report the hazard to his facilities manager. The door's closing mechanism, which was out of adjustment, was fixed the same morning. Later, others reported that they also noticed the problem with the door, but didn’t speak up. The lesson? If you have a safety near-hit, let your supervisor or safety staff know about it — it could help keep others from getting hurt.
